EFFECT:
A soda can is one of the most commonly seen objects around the world. Imagine grabbing any unprepared soda can off any one and then ripping the tab off. You place the tab on your spectator's open palm, take the can, and tap it to the sitting tab in your spectator's hand. The tab instantly seals back on the can. Canic is a piece of situational miracle. Whether you want to leave a long lasting impression for your clients, impress the press at a press conference, or simply perform it to make a few friends, you have to try Canic to know how powerful it is.
REVIEW:
PROS:
- This is a great piece of situational magic. It can use a borrowed can (more on that later) and the magic happens on the spectators hand which always makes the magic so much stronger.
- Sansminds supply you with everything you need to make the gimmick and the gimmick is very easy to make. Hardly any arts and crafts and generally just very easy to construct.
- The DVD has very high production qualities and it goes into jut enough detail on how to perform the effect. I would have expected no more and no less from Sansminds.
- The spectators can examine the can at the end. The tab is GENUINELY connected to the can at the end and the spectators can check that.
- The effect seems very 'impromptu' and the items you are using are very organic which adds to the overrall power of the effect.
- At first I looked at the method and thought "meh" and put the DVD aside. I then made up the gimmick and a situation arises one day for me to perform the effect. I was expecting reactions like "oh that was cool" but the reactiond were a lot better than that, to my surprise. They weren't "OMG!! THAT IS CRAZY YOUR THE DEVIL" and everyone runs off in a frenzy but they were relatively strong reactions.
CONS:
- There are a few angle considerations to think about but it's not anything major.
- I think the ad copy is slightly misleading. All over the as copy it is repeatedly stating using a borrowed can. However, the main handlings show uses a gimmicked can and a borrowed can handling is shown near the end of the DVD. The borrowed can handling will play the same as the gimmicked can handling and I definitely prefer the boroowed can handling as I can keep the gimmicks in my wallet and will only need to take it out when the situation for this effect arises.
- I think this didn't really deserve a single trick DVD release. It would have been better in a multi trick DVD like 'Something Out Of The Ordinary by Nicholas Lawrence'.
- If you work professionally then you won't be doing this at gigs. It's more for a casual situation or 'street' situation as explained on the DVD.
- I dislike the main handling where you have to gimmick a can. The borrowed handling means you can keep your gimmicks in you wallet and perform with a borrowed can. The effect looks almost identical.
OVERRALL:
I am fairly happy with this release. It's a simple gimmick but again I don't think it deserved a single trick DVD release.
